Ken Roberts’ club CV Ken Roberts’ services to the Club over
many years have been recognized by grant of the RFU VALUE THE VOLUNTEER award. To mark the occasion he had a special
RFU VIP tie from the RFU. He also received an INSCRIBED CRYSTAL TANKARD
with some garden centre vouchers from the contributions of the Alicadoo coach mob and junior rugby parents.
Ken Roberts originally
joined New Brighton Football Club (RU) as a squash playing member. After serving in several key administrative
positions in that section of the club he became the rugby club secretary in the
1980’s (also for a shorter period in the 90’s) and became a committed convert
to the game of rugby union. He has
served as first XV manager and has manned the gate on match days for over 10
years, where he was instrumental in making the necessary adjustments required
for the professional era. For several
years he was responsible for producing the match day programmes and also helped
generate the finance for advertising in the programmes and the boards around
the ground. For the last 3 years he has
organised the supporters coach for away matches and more recently hired and driven
the self-drive hire coach. His meticulous planning, such as finding appropriate
hostelries for luncheon, was much appreciated by our discerning supporters. Recently, he has been the
driving force behind the reintroduction of Junior
rugby at the club. He is currently their
secretary but also took over the roles of treasurer/fixture secretary when the
incumbent was ill/hospitalised for the whole of last
season. He attends every match/practice
day and monitors attendance scrupulously. He organised the attendance at RFU coaching
courses of several parents and current players in order to provide the children
with the appropriate coaching expertise.
He also helped organise and finance a very successful tour for the U14
& U13 teams to His expertise as a
professional engineer has also been much used in maintaining the fabric of the
club and in producing technical drawings for grant applications. |
