Hi Everyone, Here is an update of the junior Rugby season at new Brighton so far. We started the season with the honour of entertaining Port Sunlight at Reeds Lane. We enjoyed the majority of the play and dominated which was reflected in the score as we led for all of the game up and until the last five minutes, we then paid for our lack of fitness in the last 15, along with some indiscipline this cost us dear and we ended up losing by one score. We knew we where the better side and wanted another chance to prove it. Our next outing was against Birkenhead Park. From the out set it felt like they had a sixteenth man you know who I mean lads!!! No excuses we showed a lack of belief in some areas and paid the price although there where some good performances we eventually lost 21-0 but played on in the right spirit. We then suffered a beating by a very good Wirral side 48-0 this looks a terrible result but when taken against a result two years ago where we where 50-0 down after 20 minutes it shows a continued improvement, again we applied ourselves in the right way. We played Oldershaw and again where beaten by a decent side but a side against whom we should be showing more belief against and closing the gap. We should have played a cup match against Elsmere Port but where unable to field a side this is annoying considering that we have up to 24 lads training on a Thursday night but only had 11 turn up for a cup match. We then played Port Sunlight again where we had the chance to make amends for our earlier undeserved defeat, we didn’t need any motivation, we started from the off like a side on a mission all the work that we had been doing in training came together and we went 10-0 up within 20 minutes we where cruising but a score by Sunlight just before half time gave us the wake up call we needed. The second half started as the first had, we dominated doing all the simple things well, we scored three more times in the second half and Sunlight where blown away, the attitude was excellent this was shown at it’s best by Tom Allen all the lads know what was said by yourself Tom and we all appreciate it. Our next game was against a Caldy side who where not so much better than us as the 32-0 score line suggests again we had 6 lads who for one reason or another failed to show for the game, but Caldy where well organised with pace in the backs which we struggled against and deserved their victory. We have recently played Anselmians and where beaten 42-5 we all know what went on during the game and it should have stayed on the pitch, but some of us myself included let ourselves and the club down after the game, it won’t happen again. Overall it has been a decent start to the season despite the results, training is well attended, many thanks to Colin and now mike for your commitment, the odd appearance by a first team player with encouragement would be welcome even if it’s for a few minutes. I’m sure we will add a few more wins before the end of the season this is when I believe that some of the lads who have other sporting commitments will have to make a decision about what sport they prefer to play. Anyone who knows any players who are interested in playing at any age level bring them down to Reeds Lane Sunday mornings 10.30 they will be made welcome the more the merrier. One final note a lot of lads have been asking whether there is a tour this year as far as I know there is no tour this year unless someone takes up the challenge of organising it. |
