In a glorious and dramatic end both of the game and the season New Brighton beat league rivals Macclesfield to win the Thwaites Cheshire Cup Final at Wirrral RUFC on Monday 2nd May. A last minute try by Alastair Child broke the deadlock, sealed the game and New Brighton go down in the record books as Cheshire Cup Winners for the fifth time, season 2004 - 2005.

Excellent games against league Champions Halifax and third placed Bradford and Bingley resulted in draws, last minute scores in both cases denied the Blues an outright victory, and a home defeat by second placed Macclesfield was on penalty goals without the opposition crossing the goal line. At the other end of the scale the Blues slumped badly against all the relegated clubs. Bedford Athletic, Dudley Kingswinford and Rugby Lions each managed to beat the Blues in one of their fixtures during the season.

National League 3 North is a tough league to play in and the club ended the campaign in a creditable 6th place. But, so far as the league is concerned and judged by their own high standards, the end of the season report for New Brighton should read "Performance average but basically a very good side and capable of doing very much better".

The team have had a season of fluctuating fortunes in National League 3 North, ending the Programme with a record of 11 wins, 12 games lost and 3 drawn.. In the Powergen Cup they lost in the first round to Halifax, who have ended as National League 3 Champions, but do have the Thwaites Cheshire Cup safely in the cabinet for the next 12 months.
