New Brighton Fade On Run In |

| New Brighton 9 - 41 Blaydon | |

A great deal of spirit and determination could not bring New Brighton any reward in National Three North League against ambitious Blaydon. The Newcastle-upon-Tyne outfit showed they meant business with a power packed opening, but the Blues were still in it at the halfway stage, trailing just 13 - 9. The League leaders won the second period hands down territorially but such was the soundness of the home defence they had to rely on two penalties to extend their advantage. New Brighton ran out of steam in the final quarter when Blaydon showed their class and superiority with three tries. Kati Tuipulotu was tremendous in the home back row but the backs laboured despite a big performance by Stephen Dean. The Blues remain one positionj off the bottom and in danger of losing their National League status, although the League could yet be extended. Blaydon pushed over for a fifth minute try by Ed Thorpe, but Dean landed two penalties before Mike Campbell went in at the corner. Dean and Richard Windle then exchanged kicks. Windle was on target in the 47th and 52nd minute before adding a converted try and a penalty. Martin Shaw and James Kyle also went over. Full Time Score: New Brighton 9 - 41 Blaydon
