New Brighton Under 12's Beat Anselmians and Caldy

Man of the Match Tom Howie
Sunday 26th March. 2006

Since the Under 12's won their first game of the season against Ellesmere Port back in January the coaches have brought this group a long way. To record wins against these two sides where the boys have the added benefit of coaching at school is a very positive achievement. Congratulations to the coaches and to the boys and, particularly, to Tom Howie who was outstanding in both games.

Defences were on top for most of the first half until James Ralston found the gap to make a fine break to put New Brighton ahead by 5 points to nil with an unconverted try.

New Brighton, with tails up, totally dominated the second half. Some intense forward pressure set up the opportunity from which Patrick scored a fine try converted by Sam.

New Brighton were clearly in control. Tom Howie made the running with a fine drive to release James for a try converted by Sam to give New Brighton a half time lead of 7 points to Nil.

Though New Brighton continued to dominate they only managed to score one try in the second half when Patrick crossed the line from a position set up by the forwards. Sam converted to give New Brighton a 14 points cushion. But Caldy capitalised on a lapse of concentration with a solo break from their own 10 metre line to reduce the deficit with a converted try late on in the game.
