New Brighton 2nd XV Big Win

New Brighton 2nd XV 64 - 3 Kendal 2nd XV
Saturday: 17th December 2005

New Brighton 2's enjoyed, what has recently been, a rare treat by completely dominating the match from start to finish. Admittedly, Kendal were under strength but the Blues did it with flair and with style. Jim Yarranton with good ball from the forwards and Mike Smith, his half back partner, bossed the show. His intelligent variation of short passing, wide miss moves, kicks and cutting thrusts of his own left the Kendal defence continually flat footed.

The front row of Kevin Pollard, Adam Whatling and Anthony Probert had the opposition in difficulties and claimed to have won 10 balls against the head. A statistic no one would dream of challenging. Anthony Probert, Dan Clare, Ben Lazenby, Paul Roberts, Dan Stafford and Sean Williams were as effective in the loose as they were in the tight.

Within 5 minutes of the kick off Dan Clare had the Blues off the mark with try from a driving maul. A great move up the field involving both backs and forwards was rounded off on 10 minutes by Jim Yarranton who scored under the posts and converted his own try only to repeat the dose two minutes later carving through for a fine solo score.

New Brighton now led by 19 points to nil with less than fifteen minutes into the game and dominating the possession. It was Jim Yarranton again who racked the score up to 26 points to nil with a try and conversion and then kick the points after Dan Stafford had peeled off the back of a maul to beat the cover for a fine try. Sean Williams grabbed the final score of the half after backing up another Dan Stafford break. J.Y. was again on target.

Half Time Score:
 New Brighton 2nd's 40 - 0 Kendal 2nd's

Business continued in the second half pretty much as it had been in the first. Mike Smith went on the scoresheet shortly after the restart followed by Craig Wilson who was blooded with his first try for the 2nd's. Will Daniels kicked the extras to bring the score to 52 points to nil. Kendal consolation try came just on 70 minutes but Terry Rylance, who had been substituted for Jim Yarranton at fly half, replied within minutes with a try of his own. This time Mike Smith added the conversion. Adam Whatling scored the final points with a try just on full time.
