PJR WIRRAL 12 – 3 CHESHIRE COUNTY U20's

Played 12th September at Reeds Lane

By Colin Bentley

PJR Wirral Rugby Academy scored a memorable 12 – 3 victory over the Cheshire County U20's squad at Reeds Lane last week. Having enjoyed national success in recent seasons the older more experienced Cheshire side were expected to win this one, but a huge performance from the PJR Academy lads won the day adding yet another prestige scalp to their impressive and ever growing collection.

From the start Cheshire's older and bigger players dominated the plays often breaking the line, but were unable to score as a huge effort from the Academy kept them out. Dave Hoskins and Christian Jones were outstanding in cover defence.

The PJR lads held firm and were able build a position in the Cheshire half giving Academy hot shot Ben Wylie a penalty chance which he kicked with style for the only score of the first half

Cheshire came out firing on all cylinders for the second half but were again unable to break a determined Academy defence. Paul Hillier was outstanding for the Academy but the hero of the hour must certainly be stand off Ben Wylie who kicked a further three penalties, one magnificent effort way out on the touchline. With the County only managing a single penalty the PJR lads recorded another impressive win, this time over Cheshire's finest.

FINAL - PJR WIRRAL ACADEMY 12 – 3 CHESHIRE COUNTY U20s

The Academy is in Floodlight action again this Wednesday (Sept 19th KO 7:00pm) with a tough game against the North Wales Development XV.

A confident Alistair Saverimutto said. "I've no fear who we face with the PJR Academy side. We've been developing our senior players in a comprehensive and intensive training programme for over a year now. Pound for pound our Wirral squad is as good as any comparable team in the land. We surprised a lot of people by beating Worcester last year and will continue to surprising them as our lads are becoming good enough to beat the best there is."
