New Brighton are pleased to announce that contract negotiations have been successfully concluded with Katilimoni Tuipoluto which will keep the Tonga World Cup International at Hartsfield for the next three years. In breaking the news, Chief Coach Steve Dorrington was in jubilant mood. Kati was a giant on the field last season and, although we suffered relegation, Kati’s own remarkable personal achievement was to top the league North 1 try scoring list for which he received an award presented by Geoff Probyn at the Rugby Roundup Annual Dinner at Rugby Lions RFC on June 2nd. He, not surprisingly, was also named as the Blues Player of the Year at the Club’s Annual Dinner. Dorrington makes no secret of the importance of claiming the signature of the great man as central to his plan for strengthening the squad and turn the fortunes of the club around after a series of two disappointing seasons. Kati will again skipper the Blues this coming season and is looking forward to bouncing straight back. Kati said that recruitment is going the way we want it and we will have an improved squad for the start of the new season. Kati and his family are happy to be staying in the area and of course being associated with such a great club on the way back up. |
